Daiyu, mindful of her mother's advice about her grandmother's distinct household, cautiously approached. Boarding the sedan, she marveled at the vibrant city scenery. As they reached her maternal grandmother's residence, she observed the grand gates with a plaque reading "Commissioned Construction of Ningguo Mansion." She then proceeded to Rongguo Mansion, entering through a side gate. The sedan was carried by four young lads as they continued their journey, followed by the maidservants.

		+	Upon seeing her, Lin Daiyu’s grandmother bursts into tears and they embrace. Two women and all of the bystanders are touched. Lin Daiyu is introduced to her family members, to whom she bows politely. She meets three young ladies, all of them charming, and talks with them about her mother’s illness and passing. This topic yet again makes her grandmother cry, this time not from joy, but from sorrow, however she soon calms down.

		+	Yucun quickly turned around and realized that it was none other than Zhang Rugui. It was an old colleague of his, no longer in office because of some case, but still lived in this area. Zhang Rugui heard about the news of possibility of former officers being reinstated, so he was doing all he could to come back to his position when he met Yucun. He gave his congratulations to Yucun. They talked for a little while, Yucun was happy about Zhang Rugui's plans. A few moments later they went their own ways. Leng Zixing heard this conversation and made a plan, asking Yucun to request Lin Ruhai to appeal to Jia Zheng for support. Yucun accepted this. When he came back to his residence, he quickly looked for the newspaper that had the news about the former officers. He found out that it was true. The next day he met with Ruhai.

Nurse Wang and the other girls started serving Daiyu, while Baoyu's wet-nurse and an elderly maid named Xiren were in the room with the large bed.

Next day they woke up early to pay respect to dowager Lady Jia and later came to lady Wang.
