-昨天,我接触了一位老军人,他70多岁了,身体状况不佳,患有多种慢性疾病, 而他对体育却异常地热衷。虽然他未在体育界担任过什么职务,却每每随着中国 体育代表团的战事沉浮或喜或悲。按说,他迷体育迷得出了奇,总该懂点行吧;不 然,一概稀里糊涂。倘看排球,不知袁伟民为何人,除郎平外,其他运动员也尽数不 识。或看足球,亦不知正在进行的是ー项什么赛事,什么进军西班牙,进军洛杉矶, 乃至最近的进军汉城之战,全然不晓。什么曾雪麟、高丰文、年维泗,什么容志行、 古广明、贾秀全,他通通分不清。奇怪的是,他却时常因为赛场上的胜负而严重地影响着ー连数日的情绪。这不能不引起我的好奇:这算什么体育迷?

 Yesterday, I met an old soldier, who was in poor health in his 70s. Though suffering from several chronic diseases, he was very keen on sports. Although he has never held any position in the sports world, he cared deeply about the competition of the Chinese sports delegation. As a great fan of sports, he should have known something about it; However, he didn't know anything. When he watched a volleyball match, he even did not know whom Yuan Weimin is, let alone other athelets except Lang Ping. As for football, he didn't know anything about the World Cup in Spain, the World Cup in the United States, or even the recent World Cup in Korea and Japan. Zeng Xuelin, Gao Fengwen, Nian Weisi, Rong Zhixing, Gu Guangming, Jia Xiuquan, he couldn't tell them apart. Strangely, his mood always fluctuated because of the result of the game . I was curious that what kind of sports fan he is.
-我稍做深入了解更加吃惊:凡国内比赛他绝不劳神儿观看,只看中外之战;而 当他督战中国队时,却又只看图像,不要声音。倒不是因为人老耳聋不需要声音, 而恰恰是怕声音,怕烦。无声的比赛在电视机的画面上进行,他仰靠沙发似睡非 睡,以他独特的心情期待着比赛的结束。末了,儿孙们在ー旁提个醒儿:“完啦!” 他便从沙发里撑起身子,指一指电视机,示意人们关掉。然后问:“咋样?”原来他不重过程,只看结果。

 I was even more surprised that he never watched any domestic games, only international games between Chinese and foreign countries. When watching games, he looked at the images without listening to the sound. It's not because he's too old to hear and it's just because of the annoyance of the sound. The silent game was played on the television, and he leaned back on the sofa, half asleep, looking forward to the end of the game in his unique mood. In the end, his chirdlren reminded him of the end of the game. He propped himself up from the sofa and motioned for the television to be turned off. Then he asked, "How did it end?" It turned out that he didn't care about the process, only the result.
 儿孙们便禀报比分结果:“赢啦。”“噢,好好,不赖。”他嘟嘟嚷嚷地,面呈喜色,转身走向卧室,安然ー觉东方白。
 Hearing of China's victory, he grunt joyfully, "Oh, yes, great!" And then he turned to his bedroom and slept through the night.
 而有的时候,也许是更多的时候,中国队战败了。
 And sometimes, perhaps more often, the Chinese team lost.
 “咋样?”他还是这老词儿。
 "How was the match?" He asked the same question.
 儿孙们吞吞吐吐,拐弯抹角:“今儿个雨太大,场地上全是水……球根本就弹不 起来,咱们……咱们不大适应……”

 我漫步在北京的大道上,慢慢想着,渐渐又觉得单单把“气功热”归结为社会 心理之传染未免浅薄,这中间必有其社会基础或物质基础。试想,真要有随处便宜 的各种体育设施,恐怕这“气功热”的吸引力就不会太大。再说,气功原也同体育 的竞争与开放精神格格不入,前者实属传统儒术之故技,后者才更具备现代社会现 代人之风采。要说物质基础,无非是诸贤多在病中挣扎,又无体育关照,打针吃药 于事无补,且强身益寿心切,无奈便想从“大师”那里寻求养生之道;也不排除还有 ー些人长期以来有着“减去十岁”那种心态。但那也毕竟是先病而后求诸他法。 诸贤若多雄健,想它在知识界“热”起来就难。这ー“热”中,我更多地想到了我们 现代大众体育之不兴,想到我们弘扬体育真谛、振奋民族精神之迫切。自夏日里采访以来,ー种复杂的心绪总难排遣。太阳像往常那样出现,今天比以往上升得更严肃。
 Walking along the avenues of Beijing, I gradually realized that simply attributing "Qigong craze" to the influence of social psychology is superficial, and there must be a social or material basis. And the various sports facilities available everywhere may diminish the attractiveness of this "Qigong craze". Besides, Qigong is also incompatible with the competitive and inclusive spirit of sports. The former is a traditional Confucian skill, while the latter shows the style of people in modern society. Many talents who did not adhere to physical exercise struggled in illness, while injections and medicines did not help. Out of the desire to strengthen the body and achieve longevity, they had to seek the way to be health from the master. Admittedly, some of them have long had a desire to be younger. And all these acconted for the material basis of Qigong craze, which is, after all, asking for other remedies because of illness. If the talents were strong, it would be difficult for Qigong to become hot in the intellectual world. The Qigong craze reminds me of the decline of modern mass sports, and the urgency of promoting the true meaning of sports to uplift the national spirit. Since the interview in the summer, I have been unable to get rid of the complicated feelings. The sun rises as usual, but today it makes me ponder.
