-夜归的我,通过长街上一个接ー个的窗口,把断续传出来的播音员带着惋惜的 声音连成了片:

+At a sudden, I recalled the words in a newsletter: “Bu Xinsheng, the director of Haiyan (Sea Salt) Shirt Factory in China's Zhejiang Province, has now become one of the most controversial figures in China…”, which was sent by the famous British journalist Ewen MacAskill in Beijing on May 8 four years ago. He has always been known for his scrupulous abiding by tradition and respecting old customs.
 历史的倾诉

+The residents of the town mysteriously told me a legend that long ago in a midnight with the sky covered by layers of thick dark clouds, the Qiantang River, stirred by the gale, once raised a tide that almost swallowed the ancient town. Four years ago, another whirlwind was set off, which equally shocked and touched the locals’ hearts. The whirlwind came from the one who often appeared on the TV screen afterwards, Bu Xinsheng. His figure was scrawny and bony, eyes small and shrewd, gestures comical and clownish, and his reform was then seen as incredible. Over time, the new reality had been received by the people of the small town, most of whom were kind and restrained. Countless feedbacks, like the muddy Yanping River running though the town, were telling them all the time that another man of ability had emerged from the ancient town. Therefore, the townsmen took the tailor’s descendant of Bu family as their model, walked in reserved steps towards the forward just like their idol, activating the ancient town, and the country.

-在这种困难时刻,一家以宣传法制为己任的报纸,又以步鑫生拒绝采访为内容 而洋洋洒洒写了两大版文章,说步鑫生忘恩负义,过河拆桥,忘记了未出名时如何 热情接待记者,甚至说他老婆的户ロ是利用职权从农村迁入市区的;因为积极与港 商做生意便诬陷他收了两枚金戒指,说得有鼻子有眼,这当然是不必经过深刻的反 思就可明白的事。步鑫生对此既愤慨又坦然,就在这次相见时他还对我说:“他们 有时间造谣,我没时间辟谣,我的苦恼是我自身素质的欠缺,我的反思只限于自身 的内省。”往日叱咤风云的改革家,陷入了苦恼的回顾。
