 The Yongle Encyclopedia consists of 22877 volumes, compiled into 11095 volumes with approximately 370 million words. It includes seven to eight thousand classic works from the pre Qin period to the early Ming Dynasty, covering various fields such as Confucian classics such as the Book of Songs and the Book of Documents, as well as scientific and technological works such as the Tiangong Kaiwu:The Exploitation of the Works of Nature, Qiming Yaoshu:Essential Techniques for the Welfare of the People, and The Book of Fan Shengzhi. There are also numerous classic works and folk materials collected in other fields, making it the "encyclopedia of ancient China".
 Unlike the traditional classification and arrangement of books based on content, the Yongle Encyclopedia adopts the arrangement method of "using rhyme to rank characters", that is, according to the rhyme entries of the Hongwu Standard Rhymes, single characters are sorted by rhyme, and then literature related to each character is compiled under each character, including pronunciation, meaning, allusions, poems, miscellaneous sayings, etc. This method breaks the limitations of traditional classification, facilitates users to search by rhyme, and greatly improves the efficiency of reading classics.
