Parties may prefer an evaluative mediator when they wish to resolve their dispute and proceed on their separate ways. Facilitative mediation may be more desirable where the parties wish to, or must, engage in a continuing relationship with each other, so that the particular dispute is merely a roadblock that needs to be overcome in order to enable that continuing relationship.
