Tips
- Since you are Master students, I think you should try to write your thoughts on a short passage from the Lunyu or the Liji already analyzed using academic paper format, as if you want to submit your paper to an academic journal. This would also be a good training. Please show the different parts (original text with traditional, simplified characters and Pinyin, vocabulary explanation, word-by-word translation, final translation).
- You can also use existing translations and compare the translations. You can interpret the translation strategies of the translators. You can also give your own translation how you would solve the problems, the translators encountered.
- The translation needs to be in modern Chinese and in English. You can add Polish for your own convenience, but the teacher will not check it.
- Length: About 500-1,000 characters in Chinese, the corresponding length in English.
- Due date: Jan 31, 2024. However, I recommend to finish the paper earlier, e.g. until Jan 10, 2024.
- Final corrections: Please correct your fellow student's paper - the one beneath your own paper - until Jan 15, 2024, so that the original student still has time to work your recommendations into the paper.
- Do not copy and paste from existing literature. Do not use ChatGPT or other AI because I need to grade you and if you use it, I do not know exactly, which part of the paper is written by you and which part by AI.
- In case you make a quotation (e.g. referring to the publication place of a given translation), please indicate exact page numbers (except from internet online publications).
