Topic: Women situation in China

In this work, I present the situation of women in China over the centuries: from ancient times up to the present day. Mainly, I focus on the changes that have occurred and what aspects have not changed despite the passage of time. In my work, I deal with cultural, historical and political issues that influenced the position, role and everyday life of Chinese women at the time. I present the place of women in the family, society and politics. I describe the transformation of Chinese society from a typically patriarchal one (in which the leading philosophy is Confucianism) into a society based on socialist values. The work presents the emancipation process in China, which differs significantly from that in the west. I also write about Chinese cultural texts that deal with the position and importance of women in different epochs.

Topic: Problems of contemporary Chinese society based on Jia Zhangke's films

The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the problems of contemporary Chinese society on the basis of selected films by Jia Zhangke. The director is considered as a representative of the Sixth Generation of Chinese filmmakers, which is characterised by the experience of social change. The problems tackled by Jia Zhangke paint a pessimistic picture of a country in which society encounters many obstacles and pays a high price for its accelerated economic development. The director draws attention to how the image of a traditional family is being destroyed, interpersonal bonds are disappearing, and the young generati3on is disoriented.The monothematic films highlight the consumerism, corruption, materialism and confusion that modernisation has sown in the lives of the Chinese people.

The subject of this dissertation is "Chinese Labour Camp Literature". The chapters describe the phenomenon of slave labour in China and define the characteristics of laogai - Chinese labour camps. The work also includes the characteristics of Chinese camp literature, among other elements, which are highlighted by the authors dealing with camp themes. The most important chapter is an analysis of Chinese works on camp themes translated into Polish. Their aim was to show the essence of the laogai system in China. The stories were told by people who had personally been victims of the 1956 anti-rights campaign and had been affected by the order of forced labour. To this day, many people in the world remain unaware that laogai camps existed and continue to exist. This dissertation has presented the problem of laogai, discussing the most important issues related to it. It has shown how this phenomenon used to be and how it is now on the basis of an analysis of Chinese labour camp literature.
