Call for Papers: European Journal of Sinology, Special Issue 2025

Special Issue Theme: Tianxia and Datong – Classical Chinese Concepts of World Order

Submission Deadline: November 15, 2025

The European Journal of Sinology invites original research articles, review essays, and book reviews for its 2025 special issue on "Tianxia and Datong – Classical Chinese Concepts of World Order." We welcome interdisciplinary and transnational research that advances understanding of classical Chinese political philosophy and its historical development, from global perspectives, in English.

Special Focus

We particularly encourage articles related to:

• Historical evolution of Tianxia (天下) thought from pre-Qin to Qing dynasty
• Datong (大同) ideals in classical Chinese philosophy and utopian thought
• Confucian concepts of world order and harmony (tianxia, datong, tianren heyi)
• Traditional Chinese tributary system and interstate relations
• Imperial ideology and legitimacy in dynastic China
• Classical texts on governance and world order (Liji, Mencius, etc.)
• Comparison of Chinese and Western classical political thought
• Pre-modern Chinese cosmopolitanism and universalism
• Buddhist and Daoist contributions to world order concepts
• Ming and Qing dynasty interpretations of tianxia
• Classical Chinese views on sovereignty, authority, and hierarchy
• Reception of tianxia and datong concepts in East Asian traditions

General Topics

We also welcome submissions on:

• Classical Chinese philosophy and intellectual history
• Pre-modern Chinese literature and culture
• Classical Chinese language and philology
• Traditional Chinese historiography
• Comparative studies of classical civilizations
• East Asian intellectual traditions

Submission Guidelines

• Manuscript length: 6,000-8,000 words (including footnotes, references, abstract, and keywords)
• Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX
• Style: Chicago Manual of Style (18th edition) or APA
• Language: English
• Abstract: 150-200 words
• Keywords: 5-7 keywords

Review Process

All submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two experts in the field. Authors can expect initial decisions within 8-10 weeks of submission.

The European Journal of Chinese Studies (EJCS) invites submissions for its 2025 special issue on "Learning with AI." EJCS is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research on China from global perspectives, in English.

Special Focus: Learning with AI

• AI-enhanced learning platforms in Chinese education
• ChatGPT and Large Language Models in language teaching
• Machine learning applications in Chinese pedagogy
• AI ethics in educational contexts (China and globally)

All manuscripts undergo rigorous double-blind peer review. The editorial board consists of leading scholars from universities across the globe.

Das Mitteilungsblatt der Deutschen China-Gesellschaft (DCG) lädt zur Einreichung von Beiträgen für die Ausgabe 2025 ein. Der Themenschwerpunkt befasst sich mit der kritischen Situation der Chinakompetenz in Deutschland und ihrer Rettung in der Schweiz und Australien.
