Ashland boys sweep four-team dual meet
January 10, 2013ASHLAND — Senior Gus Simms and sophomore Cole Harding won two individual events apiece and helped Ashland sweep the relays as the Grizzly boys went 3-0 in a four-team dual swim meet Wednesday at the Southern Oregon University pool.
Kaylee Cooper won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly to lead the South Medford girls, while Phoenix finished undefeated against South, Ashland and Cascade Christian.
Simms touched first in both the 200 individual medley, in 2 minutes, 10.57 seconds, and the 100 butterfly (55.45) to help the Grizz boys outpace South Medford 105-61, Phoenix 110-48 and Cascade Christian 123-15.
Harding prevailed in the 100 freestyle (53.21), edging teammate Miles Furuichi (53.28), and the 50 freestyle narrowly over Treyson Robbins of Cascade Christian, 23.75 to 23.90.
Simms and Harding also swam legs for Ashland's victorious 200 medley relay (1:50.25) and 400 freestyle relay (3:38.64) teams.
Also for the Ashland boys, Furuichi won the 100 breastroke (1:09.69).
In girls action, Cooper won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.64 and the 100 butterfly in 1:01.67. Cascade Christian's Breanna Sapienza won the 50 freestyle in 25.07 and the 100 backstroke in 1:00.90.
Phoenix won all three relays to edge Ashland in the most competitive dual of the day, 81-77.

NORTH MEDFORD 13, CRATER 7 — Josh Wu erupted for five goals and three assists to lead North Medford at The RRRink.
Will Spence turned in three goals and three assists and Max Henry four assists for the Black Tornado, which led 3-0 after the first period.
North's Lindsey Courtney and Jeremy Wu each had a goal and two assists, Dylan Wu netted two goals and Kyler Westlund also scored.
J.R. Keyser tallied four goals and an assist and Dustin Gomez knocked in three goals for Crater.
Goalkeeper Alec Looman made 26 saves for Crater, while North goalie Calvinn Casaday had 13 saves.
