Ashland boys sweep four-team dual meet

ASHLAND — Senior Gus Simms and sophomore Cole Harding won two individual events apiece and helped Ashland sweep the relays as the Grizzly boys went 3-0 in a four-team dual swim meet Wednesday at the Southern Oregon University pool.

Kaylee Cooper won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly to lead the South Medford girls, while Phoenix finished undefeated against South, Ashland and Cascade Christian.

Simms touched first in both the 200 individual medley, in 2 minutes, 10.57 seconds, and the 100 butterfly (55.45) to help the Grizz boys outpace South Medford 105-61, Phoenix 110-48 and Cascade Christian 123-15.

Harding prevailed in the 100 freestyle (53.21), edging teammate Miles Furuichi (53.28), and the 50 freestyle narrowly over Treyson Robbins of Cascade Christian, 23.75 to 23.90.

Simms and Harding also swam legs for Ashland's victorious 200 medley relay (1:50.25) and 400 freestyle relay (3:38.64) teams.

Also for the Ashland boys, Furuichi won the 100 breastroke (1:09.69).

In girls action, Cooper won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.64 and the 100 butterfly in 1:01.67. Cascade Christian's Breanna Sapienza won the 50 freestyle in 25.07 and the 100 backstroke in 1:00.90.

Phoenix won all three relays to edge Ashland in the most competitive dual of the day, 81-77.

NORTH MEDFORD 13, CRATER 7 — Josh Wu erupted for five goals and three assists to lead North Medford at The RRRink.

Will Spence turned in three goals and three assists and Max Henry four assists for the Black Tornado, which led 3-0 after the first period.

North's Lindsey Courtney and Jeremy Wu each had a goal and two assists, Dylan Wu netted two goals and Kyler Westlund also scored.

J.R. Keyser tallied four goals and an assist and Dustin Gomez knocked in three goals for Crater.

Goalkeeper Alec Looman made 26 saves for Crater, while North goalie Calvinn Casaday had 13 saves.


Russia Says Embassy, Naval Base in Syria Working as Normal 0

Same Sex Marriages Resume In CA- SF City Hall Staying Open U

Bay Area county clerks’ offices scrambled today to accommodate same-sex couples seeking marriage licenses after a federal appeals court lifted a stay and allowed the marriages to resume.

San Francisco City Hall is staying open until 8 p.m. for anyone looking to obtain a marriage license,Pat LaFrieda Steak Sandwich At Citi Field, Mayor Ed Lee said.

Kris Perry and Sandra Stier, plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Proposition 8, the state’s ban on same-sex marriage, were the first pair to be married following the action by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

State Attorney General Kamala Harris married the couple in a ceremony at City Hall.

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, Alameda County’s clerk’s office was staying open until 5:30 p.m., an hour later than usual, although no couples had come in as of about 4:30 p.m., said Assistant Clerk-Recorder Matthew Yankee.

Santa Clara County Clerk-Recorder Regina Alcomendras said her office closed on schedule at 4:30 p.m. because no couples came in.

“We were trying to watch and see if there were any same-sex couples,Indianapolis Colts t shirts,” Alcomendras said.

She said her office will make up to 27 windows available on Monday to issue wedding licenses.

San Mateo County Clerk’s Office is staying open until 6 p.m. tonight, but as of 5 p.m. no one had come by for a same-sex marriage license, a clerk employee said.

In Sonoma County, Clerk-Recorder-Assessor Bill Rousseau said his office is gearing up to “hopefully start” Monday to perform marriages and issues licenses to same-sex couples.

No marriages were occurring today with the office closing at 5 p.m.,Los Angeles Lakers t shirts, but Rousseau said there have been “a lot of calls” this afternoon from people making wedding appointments for next week.

Weddings will start on Monday as well in Contra Costa County, which received more than a dozen calls asking when same-sex marriage licenses would be available before the office closed at 4:30 p.m. today, clerk-recorder services manager Frederick Garcia said.

The office in Martinez will be open for weddings at 9 a.m. Monday and takes both appointments and walk-ins, Garcia said.

An outgoing message at the Solano County Assessor-Recorder’s office said the offices were already closed as of 4:15 p.m.</html>
