Julia was the only child of the late Alma and Hugh Pinnix. She grew up in Greensboro, and except for brief stints elsewhere, spent her entire life living in and loving this community. She attended business school at UNCChapel Hill before accepting work at IBM in Nashville, TN. There she met her future husband, Thomas Clyde Elrod, whom she married in 1950. Julia was a proud member of the Greensboro Study Club, the North Carolina Historical Book Club, the Daubers Garden Club, and the Greensboro Junior League. She was a docent at the Greensboro Historical Museum and a longtime volunteer for Meals エアジョーダン スニーカー on Wheels.
