Although it could not compare with Grand View Garden, the garden was wide and neatly laid out with streams, rocks and trees, as well as some splendid lodges and fantastic pavilions. Dragon Marshgrass, Treasure Merchant, Romance Merchant, Prosperity Merchant and other relatives were in the outer hall. A few officials and sons of noble families had also been invited to keep them company.

However, Dragon Marshgrass just couldn’t wait and kept peering at Fragrant Lotus with growing happiness inside. Meanwhile, he kept drinking and eating without other’s service. Then, Fragrant lotus found the chance to get out and told his servant Apricot: “you just get back home now, and I’ll come back after settling down my business outside of the town.” After that, he just rode the horse to the north door and waited for Dragon Marshgrass on the bridge. Within the time of a meal, Dragon Marshgrass rushed here hurriedly on a horse. his mouth and eyes widely opening, he just kept looking around with his head looking like a rattel-drum. Then he still went back to Big Rely’s home to report to Treasure Merchant about what had happened. Knowing that Dragon Marshgrass was beaten by Lotus, he laughed, “ It’s good for him to learn a lesson from this suffering!”

After being informed what happened, both of them came to see Dragon Marshgrass in a hurry, only to find that there were no scars on his face and he didn’t get injured severely. A wave of tenderness in heart and resentful, Aunt Marshgrass scolded him and then Willow Lotus, having the intention to deliver this massage to Lady Wang to order servant-boys to arrest him. While Precious Hairpin Marshgrass promptly advised, “This is not a big deal. It was just that they two drank together and they were too drunk to contend with each other after drinking. This a normal thing. Also there might be one who got beaten a few times when he was drunk. Moreover, Dragon Marshgrass’ notorious unruliness is known to all. Why you have the intention to do that is you are very dear to Dragon Marshgrass and feel distressed when he gets hurt.
Treasure Merchant and others didn’t came to inquire Dragon Marshgrass’ health until the banquet was over in the evening. While Dragon Marshgrass declined to see them for he was recuperating in his bed himself. When Grandma Merchant and the fellows got back and returned to their homes respectively, and at the sight of the swollen eyes of Wiselotus Potterymaker with tears, Aunt Marshgrass and Precious Hairpin Marshgrass asked her the reason. 探春黛玉都笑道：“谁不是玩？难道我们是认真做诗呢！若说我们真成了诗，出了这园子，把人的牙还笑掉了呢！”宝玉道；“这也算自暴自弃了。前日我在外头和相公们商画儿，他们听见咱们起诗社，求我把稿子给他们瞧瞧，我就写了几首给他们看看，谁不是真心叹服？他们抄了刻去了。”探春黛玉忙问道：“这是真话么？”宝玉笑道：“说谎的是那架上鹦哥。”黛玉探春听说，都道：“你真真胡闹！且别说那不成诗；便成诗，我们的笔墨，也不该传到外头去！”宝玉道：“这怕什么？古来闺阁中笔墨不要传出去，如今也没人知道了。”
