About the Book
Der Große Bericht (大记录, literally "The Great Record") is a monumental anthology of Chinese reportage literature (报告文学) spanning four decades of China's Reform and Opening Up (改革开放, 1978–2018). Edited by Li Bingyin (李炳银), one of China's foremost critics of reportage literature, this five-volume collection gathers 27 seminal works by major Chinese reportage authors.
The anthology documents China's transformation through the eyes of its most talented literary journalists — from Xu Chi's legendary Goldbach Conjecture (1978), which heralded the rehabilitation of intellectuals, through accounts of rural reform, industrial modernization, space exploration, and China's emergence as a global power.
Translated into German by Martin Woesler with state Chinese support, this is one of the largest Chinese-to-German literary translation projects of recent years.
