Mud Running and Obstacle Races
A プラダ 公式 lot of people run because it is as deemed good and healthy way to reduce stress but do they really enjoy it? If you are like me, you may have reach the conclusion that plain, old running wasn't quite cutting it for you anymore. Is there anything else out there? Well, thanks to a friend of mind, I was turned on to the world of mud runs and I hope to do the same for you as well.
Before I began participating in mud runs, I was a lot like other recreational runners, doing it just to stay healthy. Sure I would signup for the occassional 5K, 10K, or half marathon and try to log a personal best, but lately, I began to feel bored and unenthusiastic about each upcoming race. I knew something would have to give or I would more than likely begin looking for another healthy hobby.
Enter mud runs. Late in the summer of 2011, my old high school friend, convinced me to signup for a Tough Mudder race in Tampa, Florida. I remember thinking that this was nuts. Why would I want to subject myself to 12 and ニューバランス 店舗 half miles of a muddy course that included obstacles such as submerssion in ice cold water, climbing 8 foot walls, jumping hay bales, and most ridiculously, running through live electrical wires? Well, after much prodding and begging, he finally convinced me and I am forever thankful that he did.
Running feels like a chore to me but not anymore. Sure I still have to train and prepare myself for mud runs, but now I am more motivated to get in shape and ready for these races, because I love them. The mud runs are all about teamwork, determination, and heart, all things that I thrive on for motivation. So if you are looking for new way to get pumped about your afternoon workout.
Unlike running a pure distance, race where only endurance and strength really matter, Mud Runners need qualities and characteristics that fall outside of the physical ones. Characteristics like leadership, teamwork, determination, initiative, and deep down they all have to have heart. Going into a mud run, you may not be sure you have what it takes to complete it but once out on the course you will be tested and push like you never have before. This is where your intangibles, that I have listed above, really come into play. And when you cross that finish line you will be more satisfied than you have ever been before.
Teamwork: The most important of qualities, in my opinion, for any mud run. These courses and their obstacles, are designed with teamwork in mind. If you are not a team minded person then mud runs are probably not for you. When selecting your team, make sure you pick friends and have them pick some of their friends, that you may not be as close to or have never met. Reason being is that once you have finished the race, you will be a lot closer to each and one of them. If you cannot find someone to run a mud run with you, fret not because you will find plenty of people willing to help you out on the course! Just remember to return the favor.
Determination: Another great quality to have. If you are someone who easily gives up, then you want to stack your team with people who will push you throughout the race. Mud runs are designed to test your バーバリー バッグ resolve, throwing obstacles at you that will work every last muscle in that body. By the time you arrive at the last obstacle or mile, your body is in pain and you need that mental toughness to cross the line.
Initiative: Are you some who doesn't need to be asked to do something? You see a problem and you fix it? Great because you are going to have make a lot of fast decisions out on the course. You need to be able to react to the each situation as quickly as possible, lead by example, and help others out on the course. The more you put in to the course, the more you are going to get out of it.
Leadership: If you are considering ニューバランス 人気 a mud run, then you are most certainly a leader and so are plenty of your teammates. Make sure you encourage each other and keep everyone feeling good about how they are doing on the course. Some obstacles you will excel in and other ones you won't do as well. That is fine, the course is designed to test your strengths and weaknesses. It is more important how you help and lead others in the obstacles you are more sure of and how you step aside and let others lead you in the obstacles you are unsure of. That is what real leaders do.
1. The courses are usually 12 to 14 miles in length and will feature about 24 to 26 obstacles. Some of the obstacles you will be told of before the race, others will be プラダ バッグ kept from you until you are out on the course. This race is a lot of fun to do with a team of friends.
2. Warrior Dash: One of the originals and easier mud run races. This mud run is great for newbies and beginners. The courses are usually no longer than 3 or 4 miles. You will face about 10 obstacles and get pretty dirty. The cool thing here is that this race is really a good way to test out and to see if ディーゼル you are going to like this sort of race. I would recommend running a Warrior Dash or something similar before committing and buying equipment, that sometimes can be expensive.
3. Spartan Race: This mud run comes in three forms. The first race is a basic 3 to 4 mile race, the next step up is an 8 mile mud run, while the last is almost marathon length (24 miles). A pretty cool series, to say the least. While プラダ トートバッグ the previous two mud runs will have you running, jumping, and crawling your way through obstacles, the Spartan Race will also have you doing some of things to test your strength (Spear Toss anyone?). Can't complete a task? Well then the person manning the station will assess a penalty, usually a certain amount of Burpees.
First and foremost do not wear any type of cotton clothing or pants/shorts with pockets. Cotton absorbs water and pockets tend to collect things, such as mud, rocks, and small, living things. If you do not own any drifit shirts or pants, I would recommend buying a pair of those. You can usually get a decent pair between $20 to $25 each.
Another thing you should buy, if you are new to the mud running, would be a good pair of utility gloves. These gloves will help you grip and pull yourself up and over obstacles that will most likely be wet and slippery by the time you get there.
If this is your first mud run, then don't worry about shoes. Just use an old pair knowing that they will most likely プラダ アウトレット be thrown out by the ゴローズ 財布 end of the race.
You probably already know most of the above (no cotton clothing, pockets, and wear gloves) but here are a couple of other things you should considered investing in prior to your next mud run:
A really good pair of shoes: コンバース ハイカット New Balance and Nike make really great trail running shoes. These shoes do not absorb water and are fairly easy to clean and dry after the race. They are light weight and won't slow you down.
DriFit Socks: Unfortunately, a lot of socks only come in cotton so investing in a really nice pair of drifit socks makes a lot of sense. These socks will not cause any blistering and by the end of the race, you will probably have forgotten you even wore socks in the first place.
